Beginner Training Plan
As coach and player I started with Pickleball as an intermediate beginner. My past experiences with tennis and ping pong helped immensely with the learning process. Because I like to teach, every student for me is a positive challenge; meaning that I enjoy to see the progress and the growth. Teaching is a learning experience for the coach too. The first lesson is different for everyone. Some students need corrections from previous rackets sport, others need suggestions and guidance to improve their performance. I apply the I.D.E.A.S. method from IPTPA a professional association of which I have Level I & II and for whom I’m applying to become MTP Master Teaching Professional.Lesson 2-3
The following lessons start with a brief overview and summary of the previous shots I explained. And if the student has any doubts or questions I am happy to answer and discuss. It is also important to note that a good warm up is the best way to start a training session and to avoid possible injuries. Every student wants to be able to get into games with confidence. The role of an excellent coach is to help the students to develop their skills and to improve the learning process.
Learning is a process of self discovery and progression. Students want to have a good understanding and knowledge of standard shots to help them to play with others and to challenge themselves.Lesson 11+
Drill, drill, drill! 80% of the learning process is drill. The remaining 20% is games. I have many drills I can teach and the suggestions I can give to them is never stop learning, never stop drilling; with friends, participating in camps with other players. We never stop learning; our muscle memory works exactly like that. And remember, pickleball is NOT about errors, it’s about intentionality. It’s about belief, confidence, mental clarity, opponents’ tendencies, and partnership chemistry.
